You can't play the game if no one teaches you the rules.

The system isn't built to help you finish. So I built a system that does.

Prof. Dr. Carina Benstoem

University professor, Researcher, Academic strategist.

Professor of Evidence-Based Health Research at RWTH Aachen University. Co-speaker of Germany's largest critical care trial network, connecting 36 university hospitals. Lead of a EUR 12.5 million research initiative. Published Cochrane author, guideline coordinator, and methods expert.

She completed her tenure track in one year instead of six. Not because she worked harder than anyone else, but because she figured out the unspoken rules academia never teaches you, and built systems around them.

Alongside her academic career, she built a global classroom teaching how to write theses and research papers. Today, over 40k+ students and researchers in 160+ countries use her structured writing systems.

A non-linear CV.

2001 - Midwifery exam. Age 23.

After high school, I was offered a scholarship to university. I turned it down. I wasn't ready. Instead, I trained as a midwife - one of the best decisions I've ever made.

2001-2012 - The delivery room years.

Hundreds of births. I learned what it means to stay calm under pressure and to show up for people at the most vulnerable moments of their lives.

2010 - First in my family with a university degree.

Bachelor's in Midwifery, Glasgow Caledonian University. First generation. I was 32.

2010-2012 - Five universities. Four countries.

European Master's. Hannover Medical School, Academie Verloskunde Maastricht, Glasgow Caledonian University, HES-SO Haute école spécialisée de Suisse occidentale, University of Ljubljana. Borders don't have to define your career.

2012 - University Hospital RWTH Aachen.

Research coordinator. Clinical trials. First academic papers. First thoughts about a doctorate.

2013 - Baby number one.

Some things don't need a long explanation.

2015 - Baby number two. and Two first-author publications.

I am not going to pretend this was easy. But writing has always been a counterbalance for my head - even during the most exhausting phase of my life.

2016 - Doctorate. Age 37.

Dr. rer. medic. A non-physician defending a doctorate at a medical faculty. It felt like walking into a room where the rules were written for someone else. I walked in anyway.

2018 - My own research group.

Department of Intensive Care Medicine. For the first time, I wasn't joining someone else's team.

2020 - Junior professor.
First week of the first lockdown.

The world shut down. I stepped into a new role with no playbook and no precedent. I showed up anyway. That's the pattern by now.

2020 - Winner of the
Horizon Impact Award.

European Commission. Outstanding EU-funded projects that provide value for society.

2021 - Tenure track fulfilled.
IN One year.

Normal is six.

2022 - Full professor. Appointed.

The girl who turned down a university scholarship now holds a chair at one of Germany's leading technical universities.

2023 - Started an Instagram account. Age 45.

I wanted to teach academic writing to anyone who needed it – not just the students in my lecture hall. Think of it as strategic curiosity. Almost like a computer game: how far can I get?

2024 - 100,000 followers.
Then 200,000.

The workbooks started selling daily, to students I had never met, in countries I had never been to. Deans started telling their students to follow my page.

2025 - EUR 12.5 million research initiative. 36 university hospitals.

Inside academia, the work continued to scale. Outside, I crossed 250,000 followers.

2026 - The AI mentor. 40k students. 160+ countries.

The first live cohort. Students from 38 countries across 5 continents joined. They refused to stop meeting after the programme ended. The system works. And now, with the AI Twin trained on my methodology, I am the professor in your pocket teaching a global classroom.
